Our goals for 2021 include:
 

Foster a sense of community among Nashville-area psychologists
Offer CEU events relevant to our practice areas
Socially distant social events for networking
Gather information on how to best support psychologists in the area,
including an active listserv for consultation with one another


Meet the Current Board

Picture
Past-President: Katie Herrington, Ph.D.
Dr. Herrington is excited to continue serving on the NAPA executive board as our first past-president. She is the co-founder of a multidisciplinary mental health practice, Green Hills Family Psych, where she is a pediatric psychologist who provides therapy to children and adolescents with a wide variety of presenting concerns, which includes but is not limited to: depression, anxiety (social, worry, panic, specific fears, performance), obsessive-compulsive disorder, coping with the stress associated with living with an acute or chronic medical condition (e.g., adjustment to a new diagnosis, treatment, or chronic pain), trauma, and adjustment to life transitions. Prior to Green Hills Family Psych, Dr. Herrington was in private practice at Nashville Child & Family Wellness Center. She attended Vanderbilt University for undergrad and graduate school. She completed her internship at the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, and her post-doctoral training at Vanderbilt's Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD) and Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital. Currently, she remains on faculty at Vanderbilt teaching cognitive-behavioral therapy to psychiatry fellows. Katie enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and young daughter.

President: Jackie Klaver, Ph.D.
Dr. Klaver is thrilled to be a part of the rejuvenation of NAPA! She and her family moved to the area in August 2016 after visiting Nashville for many years. She received her master's and doctoral degrees from Southern Illinois University and completed her 2-year postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric neuropsychology at Akron Children's Hospital. She has since made it her mission to bring pediatric neuropsychology services to this amazing and growing city! Dr. Klaver is the founder of Nashville Neuropsychology & Family Services. She specializes in infant/toddler, preschool, school-age, and young adult evaluations with a focus on cognitive, attention, and/or learning issues through a comprehensive evaluation. Common presenting concerns include underlying neurologic issues (e.g., concussion/TBI, epilepsy), as well as ADHD, Learning Disability (e.g., dyslexia), and Autism Spectrum Disorder. When she's not in the office, Dr. Klaver loves spending time outdoors with her husband and two young children.

President-Elect: Mary E. Payne, Ph.D.
Dr. Payne is the founder of The Child and Family Counseling Center.  Dr. Payne provides services for a variety of emotional and behavioral disorders, as well as interventions to maximize adjustment to chronic medical conditions.  When not working, Dr. Payne loves time with her family and being outdoors. She is self-described as “goal oriented by nature.” She strives for those goals by completing half marathons and loves the camaraderie of fellow runners. She is also an avid stand up paddle boarder.

Treasurer: Danielle Mizell, Psy.D.
Dr. Mizell is so excited to be part of NAPA! She is looking forward to getting to know more of her colleagues in the area. She moved to Tennessee two years ago to join Southeast Psych Nashville, a private practice in Brentwood. She specializes in treating children and teens with chronic medical conditions and chronic pain. Dr. Mizell received a Master of Education in Counseling Psychology from the University of Louisville, as well as a Master of Arts and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Spalding University. She completed her internship at the Children's Hospital of Michigan and her postdoctoral fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital. She enjoys watching college sports and any show on Bravo.

Secretary: Sam Larson, Ph.D.
Dr. Larson is a recent transplant to the Nashville area and excited to be NAPA's secretary!  A former elementary school teacher from Chicago, he received his master's and doctoral degrees from Southern Illinois University.   After completing his 2-year postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric neuropsychology at Seattle Children's Hospital, he moved to Nashville in the fall of 2019 and shortly there after joined Dr. Klaver at Nashville Neuropsychology & Family Services.  There he provides individual therapy to children, teens, and young adults with a wide range of challenges.  When not working, Dr. Larson loves cooking, wood working, and hiking with his wife and golden-doodle, Riley.
